Swifts hoping to dent Tranent’s shot at title

-

It is set up to be a massive final day in the East of Scotland League Premier Division both at the top and the bottom.

At the top of the table, Penicuik Athletic and Tranent are locked together on 77 points and while Penicuik are facing Linlithgow Rose at Penicuik Park, Tranent take on Ross Gunnion’s Jeanfield Swifts at home.

Swifts have had a good season and are guaranteed a fourth-place finish, but they will certainly not be travelling to Forester Park just to make up the numbers.

Gunnion’s side are expected to have the same squad available that were involved in a crazy 5-4 defeat in midweek at Sauchie.

At the bottom of the table, five clubs are separated by just three points, including Hill of Beath. However, with two of the teams, Tynecastle and Dunbar United, facing each other at Meggetland they can’t both win.

Hill of Beath and Dundonald Bluebell complete their Premier Division season with a Fife derby at Moorside Park.

With the pressure off Bluebell, they have been able to express themselves and as a result won four games on the bounce.

Dundonald manager Kevin Fotheringham is expecting to have a full squad available apart from the long-term injuries and will be confident of making it five wins.

Haws have a few injury concerns after last week’s 3-0 defeat to Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale that gave the Edinburgh outfit a chance of survival.

Crossgates Primrose edged out Glenrothes 3-2 in their League Cup tie in midweek at Warout and with starting places up for grabs in Friday’s quarter-final tie at Penicuik Athletic they will be confident of taking all three points in their final Premier Division game against Blackburn United at Humbug Park.

Manager Alan Campbell is likely to make changes to his starting XI from the one that beat Glenrothes but his selection will be left late.

Inverkeithing Hillfield

Swifts will want to end the season with a win as they take on relegated Whitehill Welfare at Dalgety Bay.

Swifts have had an excellent season and be confident of taking all three points with the same squad available that were beaten 4-0 at Blackburn United last week.

Robbie Raeside returns to St Andrews United, now as manager, as they travel to take on Arniston Rangers at Newbyres Park.

The new Saints boss began his footballing life under Iain Donaldson at St Andrews Colts before enjoying a professional career that took him to Raith Rovers, Dundee, Shelbourne, Arbroath, Alloa and Peterhead and know he has returned to take over the hot seat at the Clayton Caravan Park Recreation Ground.

Kirkcaldy and Dysart manager Craig Ness has made it clear to his side that they must go into next Friday’s League Cup quarter-final at Linlithgow with momentum on their side and that the game at Dalkeith Thistle is vital with that in mind. Ness is without Kieran Johnstone, Robert Wilson and Tyler McKenzie.

There is a massive game at Memorial Park Thornton as Hibs host Rosyth with both sides looking to secure that all important top seven finish, particularly with Edinburgh United who are also challenging away from home at champions Haddington Athletic.

Kinnoull are guaranteed a top seven Conference B finish that brings the place in next season’s First Division so the pressure is off Alan Cameron’s side as they welcome Peebles Rovers to Tulloch Park.

Lochore Welfare need a point from their last two games to secure a top seven finish, starting today against Burntisland Shipyard at Central Park.

Luncarty take on bottom side Hawick Royal Albert at home.

Letham are away to Downfield in the Thorntons Property Cup quarter-final while Coupar Angus welcome Tayport in the Midlands League.
