Train farce is no laughing matter

-

Sir, – Yes, Minister was a great sitcom back in the day when we had fewer channels and often sat watching TV together at night.

I wonder how many of the programme’s writers look at what is happening in Scotland and think that they couldn’t have written that into their storylines as it would be considered too far-fetched?

We have an SNP/Green government who are forever shouting about the climate and the need to get us using public transport and use less fuel to save the planet.

Yet this same government has now cut the number of rail services by a third from next week.

Those of us who don’t work at home and use trains will now find that if their meeting overruns, they might not have any means to get home.

Those of us living in rural areas will be further hampered to do our bit for the planet.

Just as businesses are looking for staff to get back into offices and to give a boost to the local economy, the SNP come along and slash train services a few months after taking it into public ownership.

How many staff and businesses will now think it is more reliable to let their staff work from home and have virtual meetings?

Town and city centre businesses desperate for trade will suffer yet again at the hands of the SNP.

It doesn’t matter how they try to spin this, they are letting down the rail staff, business owners, commuters and those who are elderly or unable to drive for whatever reason.

At the time of taking over ownership of ScotRail, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also said she wanted control over the tracks and signals too.

I wonder what she intends to do with them – flog them on eBay?
