PAIR ARE STARTERS IN SCOTS’ U-17 LOSS

-

Dundee United prospects Rory MacLeod and Craig Moore both started as Scotland’s Under-17s slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Denmark.

MacLeod, previously on the bench for the Scots’ U17 Euros opener against Portugal, led the line alongside Rangers’ Rory Wilson.

Moore made his second successive start in the competition in the heart of midfield, while another Tannadice teen, Lewis O’Donnell, was an unused substitute.

And Brian McLaughlin’s kids endured another testing afternoon in Israel.

Alexander Simmelhack headed home from close range to open the scoring following a sharp save by Scots stopper Jacob Pazikas.

Wilson pounced on a defensive mix-up to restore parity within minutes.

However, a Magnus MacKenzie own goal and Markus Jensen’s strike secured a comfortable victory for the Danes.

Scotland, who lost 5-1 to Portugal in their opening Group D fixture, are now realistically unable to progress from their section.

Their competition will conclude against Sweden on Monday.

● Benjamin Siegrist has bid farewell to United after four years at Tannadice.

The 30-year-old’s exit was confirmed on Wednesday with his deal coming to an end in July.

Siegrist will leave the club alongside veteran midfielder Kevin McDonald, Adrian Sporle, Max Biamou and Florent Hoti.

Taking to social media for the first time since his departure was confirmed, he thanked the club and fans for making his time in Dundee so memorable.

On Instagram, Siegrist posted: “From promotion, to securing Premiership status and finishing it off with a top four finish.

“Achieving European football, unbeaten in Dundee derbies, a pandemic, 100+ club appearances and so many more unforgettable memories.

“Thank you Arabs for your support week in, week out.

“Also grateful for my team-mates, coaches and staff behind the scenes who helped me along the way.”

The former Swiss U21 international joined the club in 2018 and made 135 appearances.
