Welcome Back on the Bus

-

Through the thick and thin of the last two-plus years, Xplore Dundee has been here to get you there. Whether that’s been transporting key workers during lockdown to hospitals, schools and supermarkets

– or helping people venture back out to shops, restaurants and entertainment venues as everything gradually re-opened. Local bus services have demonstrated their worth throughout the Covid pandemic, and have proven to be safe spaces for everyone on-board. Yet the post-Covid recovery looks set to be a major challenge for the city’s bus services. Whilst fare-paying passengers are coming back in good numbers, and youngsters are starting to enjoy the benefits of free travel, there are still two important groups who Xplore

Dundee can’t wait to welcome back fully: older and disabled people.

Overall, just two in three concessionary passengers have resumed using the bus as often as they did before. There could be lots of things to explain this (and Xplore Dundee is keen to learn what and why), but the standout reason seems to be that people don’t feel quite as confident as they used to when it comes to using public transport.

An abundance of caution is completely understandable. Covid is still around, after all, and those who are more vulnerable have to be especially careful.

Xplore Dundee wants everyone to feel comfortable on its buses, so here are three things to keep in mind when you’re deciding whether to come back to bus:

1 YOUR COMFORT YOUR CHOICE

Although the face covering mandate was dropped in April, you’re free to keep wearing one if you want to. The Scottish Government only changed its guidance on masks once the evidence said it was the right thing to do.

2 SAFE AND SECURE

Xplore Dundee has safely carried more than 14.5 million passengers across the city since the pandemic began. There are lots of protective measures still at play, such as enhanced cleaning, constant ventilation and everybody facing forwards.

3 FREEDOM OF A FREE BUS PASS

Enjoy the freedom of a free bus pass. It’s literally your ticket to days out, running errands and reconnecting with people across the city (and the rest of the country).

Xplore Dundee can’t wait to welcome you back on board soon. Download the app or xploredundee.com to plan your next journey and get back out there.
