Takeaway chain on job hunt as it plans expansion into city centre
US takeaway chain Taco Bell is set to open a restaurant in Dundee – after the firm started recruiting for staff in the city.
The food giant, which specialises in Mexicaninspired dishes, is planning to open an outlet in a vacant unit on Reform Street – next to Mcdonald’s – according to documents lodged with Dundee City Council.
The company is advertising for assistant manager and shift manager roles
In an application for a building warrant, the firm is seeking permission to “replace existing double entrance doors with new single entrance door and fit out basement and ground floor to form Taco Bell restaurant”.
It says the value of the work at 19 Reform Street – previously home to Asian restaurant Dai Pai – is £180,000.
The advert for the
assistant manager post – which attracts a salary of up to £25,500 – says: “Taco Bell are delighted to be recruiting for a brand new store opening in Dundee. Please be aware that training for this role will be held within the Aberdeen stores.”
Formed in California in 1962, Taco Bell spread quickly across America with more than 7,000 restaurants in the country.
It boasts “crunchy, cheesy, flavourful Mexican-inspired products” which are made
fresh. Menu options include burritos, quesadillas, wraps, nachos, tacos and churros.
It has since branched out to about 30 other countries including Scotland, where six outlets are now open.
Two recently opened in Aberdeen while Edinburgh and Glasgow also have two each.
Taco Bell is owned by Yum! Brands, which also operates KFC, Pizza Hut and the Habit Burger Grill.
