Paedophile behind historical sex attacks dies year after conviction

-

Dundee paedophile Gordon Fraser has died behind bars, a year after being jailed for historical sex attacks on two children.

Fraser was imprisoned for seven years after being found guilty by a jury last October.

He was also placed on the sex offenders register for life.

The 79-year-old targeted a schoolboy and his stepsister in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

During sentencing, he was told by Judge Lord Weir his crimes amounted to “a gross breach of trust”.

Fraser, who appeared in the dock at the High Court in Livingston in a mobility scooter, had sacked his legal team following the guilty verdict.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed through a death in custody notice on its website Fraser died on Sunday.

The notice read:

“Gordon Fraser, 79, a prisoner from HMP Addiewell has died on 05 June 2022.

“He was sentenced at Livingston High Court in 2021.

“Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the procurator fiscal.

“A fatal accident inquiry will be held in due course.”

Fatal accident inquiries are held after any death in custody.

Fraser, originally of Turnberry Avenue, Dundee, forced both his victims – now adults – to give evidence at his trial.

He had denied lowering the boy’s trousers and underwear, touching him and forcing him to commit sex acts between January 1978 and January 1980 when the youngster was aged between 10 and 12.

He also pled not guilty to committing two historical sexual offences against the girl when she was between five and 12 years old.

Fraser was convicted of causing her to look at pornographic material, taking photographs of her or pretending to do so and performing sex acts on her.

He was also found guilty of raping the girl at an address in Dundee.
