Hunt for ‘friendly’ pet snake noticed missing from Carnoustie home

- MATTEO BELL

The owners of a “friendly” snake that escaped from its enclosure have asked Carnoustie residents to look out for their pet.

The ball python, called Kingsman, went missing from her enclosure yesterday morning.

Owners Tia and Daniel Brand say it is possible she is still in their house but they think she escaped through an open window.

They have asked residents of the Prosen Bank area to keep an eye out and report any sightings to Missing Pets Dundee and Angus.

They have also asked anyone who spots the snake – described as between 1ft and 2ft long – to try to put it in a box or wrap her in a towel.

Tia, 20, said: “My brother noticed that she was gone this morning. She was checked on last night, so we’re thinking it must have been some point during the night.

“We’re not sure if she’s still in the house, but she did have good access to the window.

“I’ve not seen any sign of her in my brother’s room and he always keeps his door closed, so I don’t know how she would have got anywhere else in the house.”

While snakes may have a formidable reputation, Tia says Kingsman is not a threat to anyone.

In fact, she fears she may have fallen victim to another animal.

“If she’s outside then a cat could have got her,” Tia said.

“She is quite docile, she’s quite friendly. She hasn’t bitten any of us and she has just been fed.

“She won’t snap at you thinking she is getting food.”

The family are growing increasingly worried for the snake’s wellbeing, and have asked Carnoustie residents to help get her home safely.

Tia said: “She is a pet, so she doesn’t know how to survive outside. “We’re freaking out a bit. “The main thing would be to have a look in sort of warm places.

“If people are scared of her and don’t want to touch her, I would recommend putting a box over her or wrapping her in a towel.

“We are hoping to be reunited with her, but at this stage we don’t know if we will.

“Obviously, if a cat has got her then she’s not going to be able to survive.

“We are hoping and praying that we find her, she comes back or somebody sees her.”
