News in brief
• A regeneration project in Inverkeithing has strengthened community links as well as delivered new housing, according to an update report presented at the recent South and West Fife Area Committee.
Councillor David Barratt, convener of the committee, said: “The South East Inverkeithing Regeneration Project placed emphasis on much more than the new housing development – it was a chance to work more closely with the community, create new partnerships and help to develop community groups along the way.”
• Almost £80,000 worth of improvements have been made to Kennoway Den in Leven, Fife, which is listed by Scottish National Heritage as an ancient woodland.
The work, which was funded by Fife Council and Scottish Forestry, was carried out by Fife Council and Rural Skills Scotland, with members of the Levenmouth Area Committee and Councillor Linda Erskine given a tour of the newly revamped den.
• The Balhousie Pitlochry care home is backing local amateur football club Ballinluig AFC as match sponsor for the club.
The home has signed a year-long sponsorship of the club, celebrating with a visit to the care home where resident Gordon Dilworth met player Blair Stephen – and ably showed off his own footwork.
• Jim Fairlie MSP has welcomed the announcement by The National Lottery for recent funding awards to several projects in his constituency of Perthshire South and Kinross-shire.
Projects that received grants – Bridge of Earn Institute, Kid’s Week in Crieff, Perth Minorities Association, Seamab and The Stephen Lyon Organisation.
