‘Bananaboy’ in mountain challenge raises £500 for Comic Relief charity

-

A Perthshire teen has raised money for Comic Relief after climbing Ben Vrackie.

Donning a banana costume and a 17.5kg weight, 17-year-old Euan Skipworth took on the mountain with two friends and raised more than £500 for the charity.

Euan, who suffers from autism, decided to take on the challenge at the last minute and persuaded his friends Nathan and Dario to join him.

When talking about his unique challenge Euan said: “I have always loved making people laugh, the idea I can impact others positively has always been a striving point in my life.

“I believe in the ideology that a good deed creates waves as by helping someone else they will help others and so on.

“When I did this, I didn’t have money, skills or the preparation which most people would look for when fundraising”.

Euan is a sixth-form student in Perth and accesses services with Perth Autism Support such as the Club Diversity gaming club.

The club is aimed at autistic teenagers from the ages of 14 to 16 and offers support to develop skills in team working, using their creativity to learn about the world of work and potential employment, through hobbies and interests.

Elaine Finnie, transitions service manager at Perth Autism Support added: “Everyone at PAS is so proud of Euan and his fundraising. It might not be for our charity, but Comic Relief is a fantastic cause and Euan has done so well. It just shows you what our young people can achieve.”
