Injury-hit Scotland pair in fight to play again this season

- BY JIM VAN WIJK

Bath rugby duo Finn Russell and Cameron Redpath could face a battle to play again this season after the club confirmed the Scotland pair had suffered “significant” injuries in the Investec Champions Cup defeat against Exeter.

Fly-half Russell, the Scotland captain, was forced off with a suspected groin issue after just 15 minutes at Sandy Park on April 6, while centre Redpath departed in the second half because of an ankle problem.

Bath are currently second in the Gallagher Premiership table with four regular-season games left as they target reaching the play-offs and then final in early June.

However, an injury update from Bath’s head of medical Rory Murray revealed both Scotland players were set for a spell of rehabilitation.

“Cameron sustained significant ankle ligament damage in the Investec Champions Cup round of 16 tie against Exeter Chiefs. His availability will be assessed weekly,” the update on the club’s website read.

Flanker Ted Hill, meanwhile, continues to be monitored on the chest injury he picked up against Exeter and is a doubt for the upcoming Premiership clash with the Chiefs on Saturday.

Second rower Josh Mcnally and South African GJ van Velze are both back in full training, but fullback Sam Harris has been ruled out for the season after sustaining an injury in training.

Bath also announced the signing of lock Ross Molony from Leinster for the 2024-25 campaign.

Dublin-born Molony, 29, has signed a three-year deal and is set to join up with Bath in the summer.

“Ross is a true professional and his journey in rugby is a testament to this,” Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan said.

“His work ethic and leadership are some of his key characteristics and I believe he will play a huge part in our journey in the next number of years.”
