Kelty’s Tidser eyes vital points

-

Kelty Hearts player-boss Michael Tidser hopes they can capitalise on their “fighting chance” of a play-off place ahead of welcoming Montrose this afternoon.

The Maroon Machine sit sixth in League One, but are just three points behind today’s opponents, knowing a win over the Gable Endies at New Central Park would take them level on points heading into the final day of the season.

A 2-2 draw away at 10man champions Falkirk last weekend saw Tidser’s men keep pace with the chasing pack.

He explained: “It sounds strange to say but we were disappointed not to actually win the game last weekend, and it certainly wasn’t for the lack of trying.

“Falkirk had their unbeaten record to maintain but I am so proud of the players because they have given us a fighting chance.

“I emphasised to them about six or seven weeks ago that I thought we were good enough for a run at the play-offs and it looks like it is at least going down to the last couple of games.

“We have kept ourselves in and around the mix, so it is just a bit of a shame the games are running out now.

“I have been on record this season saying how fantastic a job Stewart Petrie has done up at Montrose and they are a good side who we have had some really good battles with this season.

“The games are always competitive, which you’ve seen with us beating them up there at the start of the season and them beating us at our bit. We will give it our all and see where it takes us.”

Defender Brad McKay comes back into contention after being ineligible to face his parent club Falkirk last weekend, while fellow centre back Tam O’Ware is also back involved with only Adam Corbett ruled out with injury.
