Typhoon Tymal quick to state his case for call-up

-

IF TYMAL Mills wants to break into England’s T20 side he made the perfect statement to Trevor Bayliss on Wednesday night.

Mills produced the ball of the NatWest T20 Blast so far removing Chris Gayle with a searing 93 mph yorker.

With that Somerset’s hopes were all but over before they had started, falling well short in trying to chase down a mammoth 222-3 from Sussex.

Chris Nash was the star of the show with the bat, firing an unbeaten 112 off just 64 deliveries at Hove in the 48-run win.

Sussex captain Luke Wright smashed 83 in a 156-run opening stand with Nash and said afterwards: “I thought we bowled well, especially the seamers who had to bowl into that wind.

“Tymal Mills has been preparing for a long time for this and getting Chris Gayle out was a massive part of our win.

“To beat such a good side like Somerset at this stage of the competition breeds confidence. I thought it was a pretty complete performance.

“Chris Nash batted really well. He gave himself time at the start because they bowled well up top and it paid dividends.

“I felt a bit rusty but the partnership we put together proved to be crucial.”

In the other game on Wednesday evening Essex recorded their first win of the T20 season with a convincing seven-wicket win over Glamorgan.

Glamorgan had hammered Surrey in their opener – dismissing the Kia Oval outfit for 93 – with a stunning bowling display, but on this occasion they were asked to bat first and could muster only 140-6 in 20 overs, with Aneurin Donald (51) the biggest contributor.

Ravi Bopara missed out with the bat, having earlier taken 2-18 from his four overs.

But it transpired that it mattered little as Jesse Ryder, with 42 off 23, and Tom Westley, smashing 41 off 29, put them on course for a comfortable victory.

Finally on Friday, Middlesex cruised to an opening success of the campaign with a thumping 69-run win over Hampshire in Uxbridge.

Skipper Dawid Malan hammered 93 off just 48 deliveries as Middlesex made 195-6 at Uxbridge, and Hampshire never threatened to reach their target despite a quickfire 46 from Liam Dawson.
