Dale’s just happy to play the field in T20

- By Seth Francis

GLAMORGAN'S T20 pace bowler Dale Steyn is happy to keep globetrotting.

Steyn has a hectic schedule but that is just the way that he likes it. He arrived in Wales after the World T20 and a spell in the IPL.

“In the IPL we did 36 domestic flights in just over 40 days so the travelling part doesn’t really bother me,” said Steyn.

“I love coming to this part of the world and playing in the county circuit. If I had made the South African side for the Caribbean I would have been playing in the West Indies now.

“I was supposed to be rested but I just felt going home and doing nothing would not benefit me. I have spent the full year not playing cricket. I just wanted to catch up on as much as I can. I broke a bone in my shoulder against England in January and was out for quite a while. When I returned, the South African side were doing well in the T20 so they didn’t want to change things much.

“So when I went to the World Cup, I missed out and it was similar in the IPL. From here I go over to the Caribbean Premier League. I will then go back home and we have a couple of weeks off and then it gets a little crazy.

“New Zealand come to us for the Test series and a one-day international series follows against Australia, which hopefully I will be a part of. There is a Test series in Australia and then there is Sri Lanka after that."

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE pace bowler Jackson Bird has been named in the Australian squad for their tour of Sri Lanka.

But the call-up will not affect his availability for Nottinghamshire. He was always due to leave Trent Bridge following the County Championship match against Lancashire in July with the Test beginning three weeks later.

“Jackson Bird and Nathan Coulter-Nile join the squad and will give us good control and pace,” said Australia's selection chair Rod Marsh.

“Jackson had an impressive Sheffield Shield season and showed skill with reverse swing in the last Test match in New Zealand earlier this year.”
