White can sense a landmark campaign
OLD NORTHAMPTONIANS are on the cusp of one of their more special seasons in recent years – and former Northamptonshire batsman Rob White is determined to see the title challenge through to the very end.
The club have been the bridesmaid of the Northamptonshire league in recent seasons, with positions of third, fourth and fifth ultimately frustrating finishes for the county’s largest club.
But holding a 25-point lead and already well into the second half of the season,White is hopeful Old Northamptonians can continue their charge.
The skipper made 95 not against Wollaston in the side’s latest ten-wicket victory and averages a touch shy of 60 for the season having featured more than 250 times for Northants – experience that he is looking to share as his youthful side continue into new territories.
“A lot of the lads are constantly in new situations, but they’re all keen, all wanting to learn and that makes my job a lot easier,” he said.“They’re all contributing, and it’s vital not to have any passengers when you want to go for glory. Their enthusiasm runs through the club, they’re an excited bunch, and they’re now starting to believe we can do something special.
“We already lifted the T20 Cup on Sunday, and the lads got a chance to play on the County Ground, which was excellent for them, a wonderful experience which they won’t forget.
“I should be scoring runs, I’m the guy with experience but it’s not the be-all and end-all. I won’t exactly be having sleepless nights if I get a low one because I know we have a squad where there are plenty of others who can perform in big games.”
