Gale’s the force for Hertford

-

HERTFORD captain Steve Gale believes he’s currently in the form of his life with the bat – and he’s not prepared for his big season to end.

The opener carried his bat in the Hertfordshire Premier League clash with Botany Bay, declaring his score on 156 not out as part of a mammoth 303-5 from 59 overs.

And despite having their visitors on the ropes at 230-8, Gale and co were left frustrated – unable to take the final wickets as they drew a match in which they dominated, largely due to opener Ben Howgego’s unbeaten 105.

And with their next clash coming against Totteridge Millhillians this weekend, Gale is looking forward to potentially applying himself against two former international spinners in Monty Panesar and John Emburey.

“For the innings to go as it was brilliant,” said Gale, who notched his fourth century to average more than 70 for the season.

“I’ve probably been in the best form of my life this season and there’s always that something that keeps spurring you on for more.

“It was pretty much the perfect performance from us, we’re in fifth but quite close to the play-off places so we’re happy with how it’s going.

“We’ve got a big one against Totteridge next – we all know the spinners they have but it will come down to the wicket they prepare.”
