All the week’s One-Day Cup and T20 Blast action

Derbyshire 254-9 lost to Lancashire 281-8 by 27 runs

ASHLEY Giles heralded Lancashire’s rejuvenated mindset as the Lightning kept up their slim hopes of making the One-Day Cup quarter-finals, with Liam Livingstone’s List-A best securing a 29-run victory over Derbyshire.

Livingstone struck a run-aball 98, falling narrowly short of a maiden format century as Lancashire amassed 281-8.

And while Billy Godleman fought back with 91, Lancashire held on for just their second win of the campaign, adding to a disappointing white-ball campaign which has seen their Blast defence all-but ended at the group stage.

“From almost ball one, we played much more like we’re capable of,” said head coach Giles.

“There was much more intensity and buzzing around. You then earn the right to get into those positions where you’re vying for the match.

“I’m very pleased because the team’s taken a fair amount of flak, and deservedly so, but that’s how we should play our cricket all of the time.”

Kyle Jarvis took a format-best 4-31 as Derbyshire could only manage 254-9 in reply.

That was despite wicketkeeper Harvey Hosein batting with a fractured thumb sustained behind the stumps, with Wayne Madsen forced to take the gloves as Livingstone and Steven Croft (68) put on 133 for the fourth wicket.

Livingstone’s maiden List-A ton was not forthcoming, lbw to Alex Hughes, but Lancashire held on, and now need victories in their last two North Group games to maintain hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.
