Duckett keeps form going for Northants

Worcestershire 296 lost to Northants 319-7 by 23 runs

DAVID RIPLEY saluted on song Ben Duckett for helping power Northamptonshire to a 23-run triumph over Worcestershire at New Road.

Duckett cracked 86 off 75 balls to hoist his impressive tally of runs to 631 in seven limited-overs innings in nine days, including the unbeaten 220 he hammered for England Lions against Sri Lanka A at Canterbury earlier in the week.

And Northants head coach Ripley said: “He just played cricket shots really and if he does try something a little bit out of the ordinary it’s coming off. He’s full of confidence and he’s had a great couple of weeks.”

Duckett, still only 21 years of age, was one of three players to notch half-centuries in the visitors total of 319-7 with Adam Rossington making 87 and Steven Crook 52 not out.

Rossington put on 99 in 16 overs with Duckett, who survived a difficult diving caught and bowled chance off Jack Shantry when on 33.

Worcestershire produced a spirited run chase led by opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who made a List A best score of 119 after spending eight overs in the nervous nineties.

He put on 125 in 18 overs for the second wicket with Tom Fell (54) which provided the spine of their side’s total of 296 off 49.5 overs after Richard Gleeson had claimed his first five-wicket haul in professional cricket.

New Road director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: “It was a good game and a good advert for 50 overs cricket.”
