SAINTS ON MARCH AGAIN IN CITY T20
SOUTHAMPTON Saints, last year’s winners of the CITY T20 Cricket Blast, are through to this year’s Finals Day at Killamarsh Juniors Cricket Club, Sheffield, on Sunday August 14.
Bradford Bears take on Sheffield Sharks in the first semi-final and Nottingham Panthers meet Southampton. The winning teams will play in the final at 4.15pm, with the eventual winners taking a substantial cash prize.
MCC Promotions have been promoting and managing sporting tournaments throughout the UK for over 30 years and will be looking to increase the number of teams for 2017. Theywill also will be seeking to sign a deal for a major broadcaster in the coming months.
Teams will compose of leading club and overseas cricketers. It is hoped that some new talent will come through, as with last year’s player of the tournament – 16-year-old Totton & Eling CC player Ollie Perrin, who showed maturity beyond his years in helping Southampton beat London in the 2015 final.
Mark Caswell, the competition chairman, said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of the competition’s second year. It is what the game is crying out for.
“The ECB have come across a lot of red tape and we have had talks about working with them to overcome this in the near future.”
