Burnley saved by big-hitting Brown

- By Charlie Bennett

AFTER a frustrating season of low scores and unfortunate dismissals, David Brown is adamant it is now his time to shine after backto-back centuries for Burnley in the Lancashire League.

The former Gloucestershire and Glamorgan all-rounder hit 127 not out against Church at the weekend.

But what made it special was that he propped up an innings of 230-6 in which only one other player scored above ten, as Burnley moved to within just four points of Ramsbottom at the top of the table.

Now Brown, who bats at No.3, is desperate to push on and close down teammate and Burnley captain Vishal Tripathi at the top of the run-scoring charts.

“I had only just got my pads on because I was in second ball. It is not often our openers don’t get a good start so I was a little bit cold when I first went in and the ball was doing a bit,” said Brown, who left Glamorgan in 2011.

“But I felt great when I got into it and the confidence was flowing.

“I have been hitting it well all season and I have felt in the groove, but for some reason I have just been finding every way possible to get out.

“So to finally cash in and get a good score was fantastic.”

Brown knows his newfound form must continue if he will end up as a champion, in what is one of the tightest leagues in the country.

“We want to win all the competitions we are in, but this league is very close and there are a load of teams that can win it,” Brown added.

“Hopefully, the little bit of quality and winning mentality we have will help us get over the line.”
