Money is making cricket less fair
NOT only have my beloved Nottinghamshire been relegated but next season promotion may depend on ‘the luck of the draw’ as sides will not all play each other twice.
I find this to be perhaps the most perverse decision ever made by the ECB. Cricket is overwhelmingly a fair, honest and honourable sport so how is it possible to justify, other than on financial grounds, this decision?
I genuinely fear that unless the non-Test match grounds/clubs are better helped out by the richer clubs that the ECB will continue to sell the ‘soul’ of cricket to Sky – or anyone else offering broadcasting monies.
The likely ECB franchise games will not be clubbased and will result in fewer matches being played in the domestic T20 format at additional cost to those who watch and probably with far fewer county cricketers.
Am I missing something important here or are we prepared to see yet another nail in the coffin of domestic county cricket? PHILIP J MEASURES
