Outgrounds series brings back happy memories
I AM enjoying the series of county outgrounds as I have fond memories of some, especially the photograph of Southgate, where I umpired in the Seventies.
I grew up in Bristol and visited outgrounds in school holidays: Cheltenham College, Bath and Westonsuper-Mare as well as Taunton.The buildings at Bath are of limestone (not sandstone) and the Taunton churches have two of Britain’s finest decorated towers.
At Bath I saw Brian Statham’s County Championship debut: 6-12 in Somerset’s first innings. ERIC LOVE
