Bat you bought/used?

I am sponsored by Gunn & Moore, so I use one of their bats called the ‘Paragon’, I use an old shape with a really low middle and I get quite a bit of stick from the lads for it!

CD you bought?

It would have been someone like Justin Timberlake, one of his original CDs. I have never seen him – actually I have never even been to a concert!

Five-wicket haul or century?

I definitely haven’t had a five wicket haul since I was a kid, but my last century was at the start of the season against Durham MCCU when I got 129 not out.

Injury?

I broke my arm last summer on the second morning of a fourday game against Leicestershire and I had just got the captaincy. I was having a hit before the game and I got a beamer which hit me straight in the arm and broke it.

Trophy you won?

The broken arm put me out of the One-Day Cup last year, which we won – that was a bittersweet moment for me. Going back would be playing club cricket for a side in Liverpool called Bootle.

The Jury’s out Tea or Coffee?

I am a good northern lad – love a cup of tea, milk with one sugar.

Beans on toast or pasta?

Pasta all day long, I am not a fan of beans. A seafood pasta would be my dish of choice.

Caribbean with the missus or Magaluf with the lads?

Definitely Caribbean with the missus. Even if she wasn’t listening the answer would still be the same, I am getting on a bit and my Magaluf days are behind me.

Red or white wine?

Definitely red. 50-over, T20 or County Championship? At this point in my career, I would have to go T20 – even with the old-style bat.

Time added on Who did you support as a boy?

I wasn’t a huge cricket watcher when I was younger, it was always football – but being from Lancashire I would have to go for my home county. I am a huge Everton fan. One bad thing about being down in Bristol is that I have had to give up my season ticket. The Last...

Best coach you have ever played with?

Richard Dawson at the moment, he gives the lads a great breath of fresh air and everyone is playing with a lot of confidence.

The most nervous when next into bat?

I’ll have to say Gareth Roderick – he has thrown himself to the top of the order in the Championship so he doesn’t have to watch.

Person to avoid after being dismissed

Either Benny Howell or Jack Taylor. They don’t mind a blowup, there are normally a few choice words. When it isn’t you it is pretty funny to watch at times, the kit flying around the changing room, the helmets bouncing off the walls and the gloves getting kicked all over.

One rule you could change?

To make T20 a bit more like baseball – if someone gets caught on the boundary then instead of them just walking off, you can try and run them out too.

Three words to describe yourself?

Joker, chilled, nuisance.

Which TV pundit makes you cringe and which do you really listen to?

No one in particular, but there are a few of the older guys trying to comment on the current game and T20. The game has changed a hell of a lot since they played. I like the guys fresh out of the game, Rob Key, Marcus Trescothick – they are brilliant.

Do you have any superstitions?

I am a pretty relaxed character, I don’t think I have ever had any. Hobbies? Whenever I get a chance and I am back up in Liverpool I go to the football as well as playing a bit of golf.

Dinner party?

Jimmy Carr, Sean Connery, Justin Timberlake, Shane Warne and Tiger Woods.

And finally Worst dressed?

Jack Taylor rates himself quite highly, but in reality it is pretty poor. He was rocking a big, horrendous turtle-neck for a while and he had a couple of real baggy t-shirts that go down to your knees.
