Umpires must up their game over referrals
THE talk by commentators of difficult conditions for umpires in Bangladesh accounting for the large number of decision reversals there is disingenuous.
What training have they been given on the “umpire’s call” extension to the full width of the wicket for LBWs from October 1? Have they been taken through previous decisions to see how they would now be treated?
This is no longer about batsmen getting the benefit of the doubt if the ball hits a significant part of the outside stump, it is about the bowler getting a wicket if it nicks it. The umpires must up their game in line with the technology.
