Sussex have landed a gem with Jofra signing

JOFRA ARCHER is a Shark! The signs are there for all to see that he could be one of the country’s best bowlers.

Sussex have given him the best chance of developing into a top-rate player with the security of the deal. He doesn’t need to focus on building on his impressive statistics; he just needs to pride himself on getting better under the guidance of Jon Lewis.

On debut, he ripped through Pakistan with a five-fer and capped the season off with an average lower than 28.00 in all formats.

For the likes of Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan and Ajmal Shahzad, these three bowlers now have a young buck to contend with. Each of them have been labelled with the ‘almost an England player’ tag by opposition supporters and it’s hard to disagree given the promise they have all shown at a number of points in their respective careers. As a collective Mills, Jordan, Shahzad, Beer and Briggs give us a great attack on paper, they just have to forgo their reputation just as Archer has – not much was expected of him and he turned up trumps along with veteran Steve Magoffin. Year-after-year Sussex have shown that we are a County capable of making smart acquisitions when reputation has nothing to do with judging a player’s ability. So let’s work with Archer and have him put pressure on Shahzad, because he is the bowler hanging onto his place in Hove currently... three’s a crowd.
