FORMER Derbyshire batsman Hamza Siddique has picked up his first award as an actor after a movie starring him won the Best Film Award at the recent Triforce Film Festival.

Siddique, who had two seasons on Derbyshire’s staff and played first-class cricket for Cardiff MCCU, starred in GLOW, part of his final assignment in his Masters degree in acting.

Siddique graduated last year and is now working as a professional actor. He has already appeared in a number of episodes of the BBC drama series Doctors.

His course was part-funded by the Professional Cricketers’ Association, with Siddique also writing and producing GLOW.

The 25-year-old said:“The festival helps emerging film-makers to develop skills and access opportunities to further their careers. With a focus on recognising and supporting diverse talent, the festival brings together filmmakers with the movers and shakers in the industry, enabling emerging artists to break into the mainstream.

“As part of the prize for winning the Festival, Team GLOW will be meeting with financiers and are in talks about turning GLOW into a feature or mini-series in the future.

“The PCA played a huge part in making this possible and I would again like to thank them, on behalf of the team, for their support.”
