Morris back to best after Australian stint

-

WORCESTERSHIRE can expect to see the best of Charlie Morris again this summer, according to bowling coach Matt Mason.

Morris, 24, claimed 95 wickets in his first two seasons in the County Championship but did not make the same impact last year as he worked on remodelling his action, playing seven matches but claiming just 11 wickets as Worcestershire finished third in Division Two.

The quick bowler has spent four months this winter Down Under playing grade cricket in Australia, though, and Mason is encouraged by his displays.

Mason told the Worcester News: “Consistency this winter is a great word and that’s what Charlie didn’t have last season for us. I’ve spoken to him regularly. He is bowling at a good pace again and hitting good areas.

“He sounds like he is in a great place and people here can expect to see the Charlie of old when he gets back which is great news.

“Charlie went through a really tough period when he had to remodel his action and that is never easy. A lot of people don’t do it successfully. Because he worked so hard he got there in the end but obviously his performances were affected.

“One reason we sent him away this winter was to get away from this environment and the coaches and just go out, find his love of the game again and get back to somewhere near his best. It sounds like it has done the trick.”
