The Last

Bat you bought/used? SS Ton – one for the sponsors! Song you listened to? World Of Our Own by Westlife, you can blame my Irish blood for that choice. Five-wicket haul or century? My last five-wicket haul was when I was playing club cricket for Moseley against Dorridge CC, I can’t really remember too much about it but Laurie Evans was playing against me that day. Injury? I had a stress fracture in my back which came about from bowling. I’m still out at the moment with the same injury, so that’s been about eight or nine months. I’ll hopefully start bowling again at the end of April, try to make it back to full fitness mid-May. I’ve been doing a lot of gym work to recover, but I avoid the physio as much as possible! Trophy you won? The One-Day Cup, the final was against Surrey at Lord’s. It wasn’t the fondest of cup wins from my perspective, because that was the game I injured my back.

The Jury’s Out

Tea or Coffee? Tea, I hate the taste of coffee. It’s mainly because coffee reminds me too much of an espresso martini and I’ve had one too many of those before. Caribbean with the missus or Magaluf with the lads? Considering I’ve already done Caribbean with the missus, I’m going to have to say Magaluf with the lads. She’s also now my exgirlfriend, so all the more reason to go Magaluf! Red or white wine? Red. Probably a Chateauneuf-du-Pape, it’s just unbelievable. 50-over, T20 or County Championship? T20, it’s over quicker.

Time added on

Who did you support as a boy? West Bromwich Albion, we’re going great under Tony Pulis at the moment which is unbelievable! Being Irish there’s no real access to County cricket, so don’t support anyone really although my old man follows Lancashire. Best coach you ever worked with? Tony Frost, he’s more of a batting coach but he’s our second team coach at Warwickshire as well. The most nervous when next in to bat? On my T20 Blast debut in May I was so nervous. The match was at Edgbaston, was being broadcast live on Sky and it was the Birmingham Bears v Worcestershire Rapids derby so I really felt the pressure waiting for my turn to bat. One cricket rule you could change? How wide you can bowl, that would definitely make it a lot easier – in fact I’d just get rid of wides altogether. Three words to describe yourself? Very, easily and influenced – if you put them together that’s me, especially when it comes to drinking the Chateaus. Which TV pundit makes you cringe and which do you really listen to? Being a massive rugby fan I really respect what Jonathon Davies says. It can be a complicated sport, but when he talks about it, it makes perfect sense. If I’m watching football I absolutely hate Michael Owen. Do you have any superstitions? I don’t cross the boundary rope with my cap on. I don’t obsess about it, but I do it when I remember. Hobbies? Other than drinking red wine, I’m a big rugby supporter. I follow Ulster Rugby, they’re my local team and my brother used to play for them, but he’s now playing over in Jersey.

And finally:

Who is the worst dressed player at the club? Sam Hain. His garms are dreadful, he is 21 going on 51. He thinks he has fashion sense, but that’s his biggest flaw.
