Daryl to keep his eye in at Brockhampton
WORCESTERSHIRE batsman Daryl Mitchell has signed to play for Brockhampton in the Birmingham League.
Mitchell thinks he will have some spare time next season after being replaced as Worcestershire captain by Joe Leach and wants to stay busy.
Mitchell, who recently signed a new four-year contract at New Road, said: “Brockhampton play in an idyllic village location which I like. They’ve got a good squad and team spirit and will be looking to consolidate in the Premier Division.
“They have done fantastically well in recent years to get to where they are. It’s just nice to have the opportunity to play club cricket, especially if I’m not doing well for my county.
“I enjoy playing cricket and because I’m no longer captain at Worcestershire, it will probably free up a bit of spare time.”
Mitchell expects to be available for at least at least four matches for Brockhampton, who have also signed Sri Lankan all-rounder Dinusha Fernando.
Brockhampton chairman Roy Wargen said: “Daryl is probably the best player at Worcestershire next to Moeen Ali.The fact he was captain at Worcestershire means he will be a tremendous asset for us.
“I’ve also signed Fernando, who will be our overseas player.
“You need these people to succeed and help your younger players.”
