Foxes problems compounded by Robson departure
LEICESTERSHIRE’S season has not got off to the best of starts. Deducted 16 points on the eve of the County Championship season starting, the Foxes were then beaten by Midlands rivals Nottinghamshire in their opening game.
Now things have got even worse with opening batsman Angus Robson, above, leaving the county by mutual consent in order to pursue other opportunities in the game.
Robson, 25, scored 2,995 first-class runs at an average of 31.52 in 53 appearances for the club. His contract was due to expire at the end of the season but he requested to be released early.
Robson, pictured, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Leicestershire but have decided to take on a new challenge at this stage of my career. I wish the club all the very best for the rest of the season and beyond.”
Robson made two first-class centuries for Leicestershire while also posting 333 runs in 15 List A appearances.
Leicestershire chief executive Wasim Khan said: “We are disappointed to lose Angus at this stage of the season but we have a big squad and fully understand that he wants to have an opportunity to start a new cricketing chapter in his life.
“We thank Angus for his contribution to Leicestershire over the last four years and wish him well for the rest of his career.”
