Tino’s signing is the Best news for Mildenhall

- By Brett Holmes

MILDENHALL are getting ready to unleash a former West Indies international on their return to the East Anglian Premier League after signing Tino Best for their upcoming campaign.

Best, who played for Hampshire last season, is currently touring England with Lashings and he will be available to train with the club on Fridays then play on Saturdays.

The 35-year-old played in 25 Tests, 26 ODIs and six T20s for the West Indies from 2003 to 2014, taking 97 wickets across the three formats.

Known for enjoying a good slog, Best also came within five runs of becoming the first No.11 batsman to strike a century in Test cricket when he smashed a spectacular 95 against England at Edgbaston in 2012.

Mildenhall are hoping his arrival will help them make an impact in what is their first season back in the top flight after an 11-year absence. Captain Ben Shepperson made the move to sign Best after an earlier deal to bring in an Australian fell through and is confident that he’ll prove a real asset.

“I thought Tino was the perfect kind of character to get in our team, and that was without even thinking about his cricket,” Shepperson said. “Our team’s full of big personalities and he’s definitely one of those.

“If I saw him on the opposition team sheet I wouldn’t be overly happy to go out there and face him.

“Hopefully he’s going to deliver and he’ll also help our other bowlers by creating pressure at one end.”
