All-round good guy Mitchell keeps Rapids flowing
NORTH ROUND-UP
WORCESTERSHIRE continued their unbeaten run by ending another on Friday as Daryl Mitchell starred against Yorkshire.
The former Rapids captain made 69 before claiming three scalps as Worcestershire won by 51 runs. It was a win largely set up by Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s stunning 118, which included five maximums, with Peter Handscomb’s 88 in reply not enough to get Yorkshire close.
Kohler-Cadmore said: “We’ve got a good bit of momentum going, unbeaten so far this year which is a good habit to be in.
“Everyone is doing their part. In white ball games, if everyone can chip in, it gets you a big score. Then our bowlers bowled brilliantly and the fielders are doing their job.”
Yorkshire bounced back on Sunday by edging a high-scoring clash with Derbyshire. Handscomb was impressive again, smashing 140 off 112 balls as Yorkshire racked up 349-7.
Wayne Madsen hit 112 but Yorkshire’s sizeable total was rarely under serious threat though Daryn Smith and Matt Critchley got them within 15 runs with a flurry of boundaries.
Lancashire won the battle of the strugglers with a 26-run victory over Warwickshire.
The Bears had lost on Friday as Billy Root, brother of England Test captain Joe, notched his first List A century for Notts. At the same time, Lancashire were going down to Northants but the Red Rose got points on the board against Warwickshire thanks to Steven Croft’s 127 off just 83 balls, which included eight maximums.
Notts followed up their win over Warwickshire on Friday with a six-wicket victory against Leicestershire, James Pattinson starring with 4-42.
Durham also did the double across the weekend, their win against Northants coming two days after they comfortably chased down 212 against Leicestershire.
