Finn’s 3-0 spell sinks Glamorgan

- By Charlie Talbot-Smith

IT HAD been a quiet start to the One-Day Cup for Steven Finn but he burst to life to keep Middlesex’s quarterfinal hopes alive.

The England seamer – left out of the Champions Trophy squad – took 4-39 as they beat Glamorgan by 16 runs.

Middlesex have now won two of six to sit fifth in the South Group, while Glamorgan’s hopes of progress are all but over.

And after his best performance of the competition so far, Finn hopes his side have finally found their killer instinct.

“I’ve felt in good rhythm the whole time, in the two games I got hit around a bit I still felt good, and I believed something like this was around the corner.

“We missed key moments at Canterbury and against Gloucestershire, but here we kept our foot on their throats,” he said.

Middlesex’s 243, with 50s from James Franklin and Dawid Malan – was probably just below par. But with Glamorgan’s chase well set at 104-1, Finn produced a stunning spell of three wickets for no runs in nine balls,

Ryan Higgins (3-32) finished off the victory.

Glamorgan coach Robert Croft said: “We conceded 20 more runs than we should have and that’s largely down to our fielding. We gave them those extra runs.”
