Carving them up meant the world

- By Charlie Peat

SPINNER Karl Carver said helping Yorkshire beat Leicestershire in the One-Day Cup meant the world to him as the White Rose secured second-place in the North Group.

Yorkshire needed 71 from Gary Ballance and 52 not-out from Azeem Rafiq to recover from 98-4 to post 258-7.

Carver then helped stifle Leicestershire as he chipped through the middle order, picking up 3-24 as the away side slipped from 107-1 to 189-8.

And after bowling out the Foxes out for 238, the spinner said he was delighted to help steer the Vikings to victory.

“It’s great to get back out there amongst the lads. I’ve been dying to get out there,” the 21-year-old said.

“It’s just tough when you’ve got such a good squad as we have.

“It’s really nice to win in a Yorkshire shirt and contribute in a Yorkshire shirt. It means the world.”

Carver also paid tribute to Rafiq following his 32-ball halfcentury and two wickets.

The spinner said: “Azeem [Rafiq] bowled well and got the ball rolling.

“He helped me come on at a nice period. It’s always nice to bowl with him and build it together. Luckily it went my way today.

“We’re playing with enjoyment as a team and are expressing ourselves every time we go out there. We have a young side who can all contribute.”

After wrapping up second place, Yorkshire must wait to see who ends third in the South Group before they discover their quarter-final opponents.
