Rishton rally keeps Berks top of group
ANDY Rishton’s unbeaten 49 helped Berkshire to a fourwicket victory over Cornwall to stay top of the Group One of the Unicorns Knockout Trophy.
Having won the toss, Berkshire put Cornwall into bat at Wokingham and skittled them for 141 in 49.3 overs, with Oli Wilkin (3-17) the pick of the bowlers.
And the home side managed to chase down that modest total in just 28.4 overs, with Rishton ably supported by Euan Woods (30) and Richard Morris (34). Hot on Berkshire’s heels are
Devon, who made it two wins from three with victory over
Oxfordshire at Sidmouth. Devon put the visitors into bat and managed to bowl them out for 185, with opening batsman Lloyd Sabin top scoring with 39, while Hugo Whitlock did the damage with the ball, taking three for 23 for the hosts.
Devon opener Liam Lewis set about chasing down the Oxfordshire total by hitting two sixes and eight fours on his way to a classy unbeaten 75 as they won by five wickets.
In Group Two, Cheshire kept up their unbeaten record with a thumping triumph over
Herefordshire. The hosts put on 261-6 at Alderley Edge and then bowled the visitors out for just 110 as Jack Williams took four for 17.
In the other game in Group Two, Shropshire beat Wales by six wickets for their first win of the campaign to move up to third. Charlie Home was the star of the show taking seven for 52.
Karl Krikken, Shropshire’s director of cricket, said: “It was a good win and hopefully we can take it into the next one and win that one.
“I don’t think we can qualify now, but if we can win the next one then that’s great news and it takes it into the three-dayers.
“It was a very good performance with the fielding again. I thought we bowled exceptionally well and obviously Charlie picked up his seven-for which is great for the lad.” Lincolnshire are the only side with a 100 per cent record in Group Three after their 237run thrashing of Norfolk at Bracebridge Heath, thanks to an unbeaten 153 from Matthew Lineker that included 11 sixes.
In the other Group Three game, Cambridgeshire beat Cumberland by 13 runs.
Hertfordshire went top of Group Four with an eightwicket victory over Wiltshire, while Bedfordshire beat Buckinghamshire by 20 runs to remain third.
