Unbeaten Grange too Goud again as Gordon takes five

- By Gary Heatly

As the Scottish league season enters its second month Arbroath and Grange are still unbeaten in the CSL Eastern Premiership.

Last weekend four wickets from Calvin Burnett led Arbroath to a victory at Forfarshire while opening bowler Gordon Goudie put in a five star performance as Grange defeated Watsonians.

Home skipper Preston Mommsen was delighted with his team’s showing in the victory, batsman Ryan Flannigan also impressing.

The Stockbridge outfit kept up their unbeaten start to the league campaign – and dodged the heavy rain showers – on a day when Goudie’s top class bowling set-up the positive result.

Mommsen said: “Gordon Goudie and James Tapper did really well opening the bowling for us and did not let Watsonians settle.

“Gordon showed his class with five wickets while it was great to see Ryan scoring a high quality half century to get us over the line.

“Overall, we are very happy with this win because we know that Watsonians can be a dangerous team.”

Heriot’s are now third in the table after their home victory over Glenrothes.

And it was a great day at Goldenacre for young Sean Hinmers, scoring a 50 with the bat and then taking two wickets.

His runs, aided by 39 from Mark Watt and 27 from captain Keith Morton, helped Heriot’s post 213 all out batting first.

After rain disrupted proceedings Glenrothes were set a recalculated total of 176, but Heriot’s managed to hold their nerve and win by five runs.

Michael Herdman hit a century to help guide Carlton to a home win over Aberdeenshire.

He really was the mainstay of the innings, his 104 seeing them post 245 all out batting first.

Aberdeenshire’s target was revised, but Carlton came out on top with Herdman taking three wickets and others bowling well around him.

Shaylen Pillay, Hayden Mourits and Greg Bissett all hit half centuries at Falkland as SMRH secured a crucial away victory.

On Saturday Arbroath host Watsonians with Grange at SMRH.

Prestwick are top of the WDCU Premier Division and last week they defeated Poloc.

Owais Shah and CraigYoung helped the home side reach 51-1 Before Prestwick’s bowlers got their act together and dismissed them for 150.

Prestwick’s reply in pursuit of a target which was revised on several occasions was less than convincing, but they eventually they made it to 77-7 and won via D/L.

Meanwhile, seven sides have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Citylets Scottish Cup.

On Sunday Heriot's Michael Shean and Duncan Hamilton put together a superb stand for the final wicket in the second round to help their side win at West of Scotland.

Needing 136 to win the match, Heriot’s still required 41 runs when last man Hamilton came to the wicket, but he dug in while Shean (68 not out) played superbly to see them through.

Andy Hislop, the Watsonians wicketkeeper, had an eventful day as he ran the Edinburgh Half Marathon and then helped his side progress at the expense of Stenhousemuir.
