TCP VERDICT
Impressive Glamorgan overcame an uncomfortable spell in their first innings when they slumped to 58-6, but a fine century from Jacques Rudolph – his first Championship hundred for more than two years – helped set them up for their resounding victory.
He flourished without the responsibility of four-day captaincy which is now in the capable hands of Michael Hogan, who has started his leadership reign with two Championship wins on the bounce.
Rudolph is not the only Glamorgan player to deserve a pat on the back. Chris Cooke, Andrew Salter and Lukas Carey also produced crucial knocks.
It proved far too much for Worcestershire who also found pacemen Timm van der Gugten, Hogan and Carey a problem. They claimed 18 wickets between them in a fluctuating match.
For Worcestershire it was a game they’ll want to get out of their system as quickly as possible.
They’ve now lost their last two Championship matches after making a cracking start to the campaign with four straight wins.
They hoped to regain that winning feeling here after suffering a crushing innings defeat against Sussex, but take away a few notable individual displays – Josh Tongue and Joe Leach with the ball and Ben Cox and Ed Barnard with the bat – Worcs’ overall performance got pretty much what it warranted – a humbling defeat.
