White Ferns ace Amy aims to lead a double celebration

- By Dan Barnes

AS New Zealand go looking to pen another chapter in their rich ICC Women’s World Cup history, sharpshooter Amy Satterthwaite is aiming to celebrate a career landmark on the biggest stage.

The 30-year-old batter – the only woman to have hit four consecutive centuries in one-day internationals – currently has 95 White Ferns caps to her name and, should her team’s campaign over the next month or so go swimmingly, she will clinch another coveted ton of a different kind.

Satterthwaite’s skipper is Suzie Bates, who was voted Player of the Tournament in 2013 after topping the run charts with 407, and who has 98 caps to her name heading into the showcase event.

Bates looks set to get to 100 before her but Satterthwaite, who made her White Ferns debut back in 2007, thinks that a double celebration would be all the more thrilling.

“To win 100 caps for your country is a big achievement at any time but to do it at a World Cup would be even more special,” she said.“To do it so close to Suzie (Bates) would be very special as well.

“I have played alongside her for a long time now, so to reach the milestone in the same tournament would be very special.

“I think it is something you realise when you think about a milestone, like the time and effort you have put in to achieving something like that, and you realise just how long you have been playing.”

Like hosts England and Australia, New Zealand are one of only three teams that have participated in all ten editions of the World Cup to date, winning once, 17 years ago.

Satterthwaite added:“I think it is the first time that you can realistically say that everyone has a very good chance.”
