Lashings stars support Grenfell Tower fund

-

SOME of the world’s greatest ever cricketers are teaming up to raise money for victims of the shocking Grenfell Tower fire.

The Lashings All-Star team, which will be captained by legendary Pakistan spin bowler Saqlain Mushtaq and include the likes of Pakistan international Yasir Arafat,West Indian’s Tino Best, Kirk Edwards and the great Gordon Greenidge, will play against the Lord’s and Commons CC, a side made up of MPs, in the fundraising match on Tuesday June 27.

For 20 years, the ‘Harlem Globetrotters of cricket’ have toured Britain organising and playing charity events, and their squad of multi-national and highly-talents players jumped at the chance to do their bit for those affected by the tragic fire last week.

“We were as horrified as everyone by this story,” said Lashings coach Greenidge.“We all felt we had to do something and that’s why we were delighted to agree to play.”

While Mushtaq, Arafat, Best and Edwards will be joined by cricketing greats such as Monty Panesar,Wasim Jaffer and more, the Lord’s and Commons CC have also assembled an impressive side.

The historic club have been playing for more than 150 years, and have been represented down the years by some of British politics’ most recognisable names, with cabinet ministers past and present, such as John Redwood, Boris Johnson and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, all turning out for the side.

The Twenty20 game, which is being hosted in conjunction with the ECB at the Upper Latymer School Sports Ground, is sure to be a great occasion and MPs captain Nigel Adams said:“I’m delighted that so many of my parliamentary colleagues have agreed to take part in the match.

“I hope there’s a good crown on Tuesday night to support this great cause which has touched so many people.”

Doors open at 6pm, with the match being commentated on by legendary Henry Blofield, and all funds raised will go towards the Evening Standard Dispossessed fund.
