It’s all White now for Cornwall as Jack strikes back
CHESHIRE captain Lee Dixon has hailed the form of bowler Jack White after he picked up seven wickets to defeat Cornwall in the Unicorns Championship Western Division.
White took 5-42 and then 2-61, meaning the hosts only had to make 44 in the second innings – something they achieved without losing a wicket.
And following a defeat to Hertfordshire in the Unicorns Trophy, Dixon hailed his bowling line-up for bouncing back at Nantwich.
He said:“It was a really positive result after losing the cup quarter final. Even missing two senior bolwers in Ollie Freckingham and Danny Woods,we toiled away really well.
“Jack White was really the stand-out bowler, he managed to get a little more out of the wicket but he’s definitely coming on since Wayne White joined the team.
“He’s very talented, and has really good skills and if you keep landing it in the right area and get it to jag about a little bit then you’re going to cause problems.”
Cheshire finished mid-table last season and Dixon, who is in his second season as captain, is relishing the prospect of challenging for the title this summer.
He said:“After the next two games we’ll see where we’re at but if we come out of it in a good position then we’d like to be pushing Berkshire, they’re going to be right up there.“
Elsewhere, two five-fours from ex-Middlesex man Chris Peploe helped Berkshire cruise to a 212-run win over Wales.
Wiltshire secured their first win of the Western Division thanks to tremendous 201-run knock by Steven Bullen in their 218-run win over Dorset.
There was also a victory for Oxfordshire over Devon and Shropshire and Herefordshire played out a draw in the threeday competition.
Suffolk went top of the Eastern Division with four-run win over Northumberland courtesy of a brilliant double-ton from Jaik Mickleburgh.
Chris Brown’s nine-wicket haul over two innings for Norfolk steered them to a 185-run victory over Buckinghamshire and despite posting 339 in the first innings, Bedfordshire’s collapse to 94 all-out in the second innings helped Cambridgeshire to a two-wicket victory.
The fixtures between Hertfordshire and Cumberland and Lincolnshire and Staffordshire ended in draws.
