Six of the best prove costly for Sam

- By Charlie Bennett

HE MAY have smashed a recordbreaking double century but Sam Roles fears Charlton Down could up his match fees after hitting too many balls out of the park.

The powerful ball-striker notched up exactly 200 not out from just 65 balls in the Dorchester & District Evening League Cup quarter-final as his side saw off Puddletown.

Charlton Down totalled 286-3 from their 20 overs with the visitors managing just 60 in reply.

Roles said: “The first ball I hit for four and I just kept on going.

“Our approach is basically hit out or get out. It just so happened that I hit every ball and didn’t get out in the end.

“It was one of those innings where I wasn’t really thinking about things too much.

“The first hundred came off 37 balls and the second hundred came off 28 balls.

“I think I lost six cricket balls in the end, so it was a bit of an expensive evening for the club.

“Someone suggested putting my match fees up, but I said I didn’t like the idea of that!”
