TCP VERDICT

-

Glamorgan’s approach on day one of the contest suggested that a draw was in the offing as they scored just above a rate of two runs per over for the majority of their first innings.

Incredibly, there were 81 overs of dot balls bowled by Durham. Nick Selman made his third ton of the season.

The match appeared to swing in Durham’s favour in the final hour of day one when Chris Rushworth produced a thrilling spell of 3-13 in six overs with the second new ball.

However, in the second morning Glamorgan just got away to post a competitive 295, while Marchant de Lange put Durham under pressure by removing openers Stephen Cook and Cameron Steel.

Graham Clark and Paul Collingwood responded with a brilliant partnership of 185 for the fourth wicket.

Collingwood fell eight runs short of his ton and a late collapse looked to have prevented Durham from building a sizeable lead, only for Barry McCarthy and Rushworth to put on 68 for the final wicket.

McCarthy then showed his all-round ability by helping bundle Glamorgan out with the ball and set up a comparatively easy runchase at less than four an over.

Glamorgan’s lack of impetus in the first innings had come back to haunt them and allow Durham that crucial first win.
