Send off the send-off

-

MARTIN Johnson suggests (We must not offend viewers at home) that Kagiso Rabada’s ban was perhaps for causing offence to a maiden aunt in Stoke Poges.

I am not a maiden aunt but as one of that rare breed, a never-swearing Australian, I objected to Rabada’s crudity, and commend the crackdown on the abhorrent modern ‘send-off’ practice.

A batsman is in enough mental turmoil on being dismissed without having to suffer foul language from a gloating bowler, a practice permitted for far too long.

Incidentally, having known Martin Johnson as a journalist colleague, I may add that his Press box language has at all times been irreproachable. MURRAY HEDGCOCK, London
