Anya to get name on Lord’s Honours

- By Seth Francis

A NEW Honours Board is set to be installed at Lord’s to include Anya Shrubsole’s phenomenal Women’s World Cup final bowling figures of 6-46.

As it stands, if a player scores a hundred or takes five wickets in an innings of a Test match, their name is then etched onto the famous Honours Board for their achievement to take a lasting place in history at Lord’s.

MCC are now putting plans in place to include the same milestones for both men’s and women’s ODI cricket on the same board.

Derek Brewer, MCC chief executive & secretary said: “MCC are looking into an honours board in One-Day International cricket.

“It is appropriate that ODI cricket is commemorated in the same way as Test match cricket, and for both the men’s and the women’s game.”

Shrubsole would not be the only women’s name to appear on the board with Sarah Taylor and Katherine Brunt, who scored 129 and took 5 for 25 respectively against South Africa at Lord’s in 2008, also set to appear.

Brett Lee and Muttiah Muralitharan are two other stars who would see their efforts inscribed in history. Former Australian paceman Lee took five wicket-hauls against England in both 2005 and 2009, whilst Muralitharan’s 5 for 34 helped Sri Lanka to victory over England in 1998.

The West Indies would also have two of their greats appear after two starring performances in the first two Cricket World Cup Finals, with Clive Lloyd’s unbeaten 102 against Australia in 1975, and Joel Garner’s 5 for 38 against England in 1979.
