Angry Colly sparks Wood debate

- By Will Reilly

PAUL Collingwood has expressed his frustration at the bureaucracy of the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League with Mark Wood unable to play for home side Ashington this weekend.

Wood, right, is recovering from a heel injury and was keen to play for his home club to continue the rehab process, but was not registered in time – frustrating Collingwood.

On social media, Collingwood said: “How come an England bowler Mark Wood can’t even get a game of cricket in this weekend to help his recovery process because of stubborn league rules?

“He should be allowed to play for Ashington whenever he wants to play as they've developed him since a young boy and it's been his one and only league club.

“Surely the Northumberland Tyneside senior league should be proud of their home grown pro players rather than penalising them.”
