Aussies ‘not too rattled’ by rock hit

- By Seth Francis

TWO people have been arrested after a rock was thrown at Australia’s team bus following their victory in the second T20 in India.

Australia comfortably won by eight wickets in Guwahati, but the drama happened outside the ground with visiting batsman Aaron Finch tweeting a picture of the smashed bus window.

No one was hurt in the incident with Cricket Australia reporting that no one was seated next to the window where the rock pierced the glass and fell inside the vehicle.

Aussie spinner Adam Zampa said: “I had my headphones on quite loud and was looking towards the other side of the bus. I just heard this loud bang. It was a pretty scary five seconds or so.

“Our security guard mentioned quite quickly that it might have been a rock. It was a pretty scary incident. You never want those things to happen. It was disappointing.”

Australia had a similar scare in Bangladesh a couple of months ago, with authorities believing street children had thrown something at their bus. The BCB immediately increased security for the Australian team to ensure there were no further mishaps.

Zampa added: “I think everyone was alright. I think after what happened in Bangladesh with the rock as well, no one was too rattled. It was dealt with quite well, I think.

“The Indian fans are so great to us, which is one of the reasons why it’s so hard to travel here. They’re so loud, they love cricket and they’re so passionate about it.

“Guwahati doesn’t get much cricket as it is so for one person to do that and to spoil it for the rest of the Indian fans, it’s pretty disappointing.”

The two teams go into today’s deciding T20 after India won a rain-affected first clash as they mowed down a 48-run six over target with minimal fuss. This after Australia struggled to cope with a low, slow surface to reach just 118-8 from their 20 overs.

In the second game, it was roles reversed – India all out for 118 thanks to four wickets from Jason Behrendorff, and Australia reaching the target with 27 balls to spare.
