a million dollars again at Notts

-

“I had a great time at Sussex, I loved every minute of it and it will always be my home,” he said.

“I will always follow and support the lads – it is very tough to leave.

“But with the way things have turned out, it was an amazing opportunity.

“It is a new challenge, I will look back over everything I achieved with Sussex with huge pride.

“But the opportunity to start again at 34 is not something you kind of expect. Especially with probably the biggest county in the country at the moment.

“You look at this side, and how they went last year – anyone would want to join a team like that to try to continue that success. And to play at Trent Bridge, which is one of my favourite grounds and an amazing place to play cricket, it all adds up to be an exciting time at the later stage of my career.”

Moores presided over two of Sussex’s County Championship crowns in the early Noughties and offered Nash his first-ever contract at his boyhood county.

So the chance to reunite with his former coach made the decision to move to Trent Bridge a “no-brainer”.

“Pete sprinkles his magic dust on people,” added batsman Nash.

“I went up to Notts on Tuesday to meet everyone and get to know the area. I spent a few hours with him and you walk away excited to play cricket, inspired to work hard and even at my age it has given me a real kick to improve.

“He just made me feel a million dollars from the moment I walked through the gates.

“And that is how he made me feel when I got my first contract all those years ago – he took a bit of a punt on me.

“I will never forget back then he told me to always wear a suit in a contract meeting, so I turned up on Tuesday in a smart suit.

“It’s a nice round journey for me, I probably only have one or two more contracts in me, and, hopefully, I finish my career here and can have a really successful four or five or six years.”
