Alastair Cook Dismissed cheaply in both innings and is averaging just 13.83 in this series. Questions now being asked about his future. 3/10 Mark Stoneman Brave first-innings halfcentury was only ended by a contentious DRS call. Will be disappointed with second-innings dismissal. 6/10 James Vince After a familiar fish outside off on day one, compiled a fine secondinnings 55 that was terminated by a freak Mitchell Starc ball. 6/10 Joe Root (c) Out for 20 and 14 in a match where his team really needed their captain to stand up. Also allowed his team to drift in the field. 4/10 Dawid Malan Backed up magnificent maiden Test hundred with another fine, fighting half-century on the final day. Has had a fine series to date. 9/10 Jonny Bairstow A first Ashes hundred meant the world and fully justified England’s decision to move him up the order. Kept well too. 8/10 Moeen Ali Another poor Test, with his batting found wanting and his bowling again disappointing. Where is his form from last summer? 4/10 Chris Woakes Bowling figures of 1-128 tell their own story and despite being relatively economical, looks toothless when the ball is not moving. 4/10 Craig Overton Followed up his encouraging debut with another strong display. Fact he battled through a fractured rib shows his character. 7/10 Stuart Broad England’s most ineffective pace bowler and a real let-down given his stature as a senior player. 0-142 were the worst figures of Test career. 3/10 James Anderson Came back well to take four wickets and now has 12 at 25.83 in series. But did not do enough with the new ball to trouble Australia. 6/10 CHRIS STOCKS
