EUROVISION: COME TOGETHER

-

BBC One and BBC Two, from 6.25pm

We might have been denied tonight’s planned contest from the Netherlands – nul points for the pandemic – but the BBC is plugging the gap with an evening of programming devoted to the annual musical cheese-feast. It promises to be equally entertaining in a knowingly naff fashion. Graham Norton kicks off by giving UK viewers the chance to vote for their all-time favourite Eurovision song. He will also chat to Yorkshireborn troubadour James Newman, who was due to represent the United Kingdom in Rotterdam.

At 8.00pm a live show will honour all of this year’s 41 songs, simulcast across Europe and

beyond, hosted by the Dutch trio who were due to compère full proceedings. Treats include a virtual singalong, with fans from around the world forming a choir to croon Johnny Logan’s victorious 1980 entry for Ireland, What’s Another Year. Norton pops behind the mic to provide waspish live commentary. At 10.00pm, switch to BBC Two for Rylan Clark-Neal’s compilation of all things Eurovision, starting A for Abba through to Z for Zelmerlöw (the 2015 Swedish winner). There’s also classic gaffes from Eurovision’s 64-year history and Terry Wogan’s funniest moments. Michael Hogan

STATE OF HAPPINESS

BBC Four, 9.00pm and 9.45pm

The classy and absorbing Norwegian oil-drilling drama, set in the late 1960s, continues with Phillips Petroleum seeking a coastal site to build a gigantic oil storage tank. One of the areas under consideration is the Dirdal Valley, where Anna’s (Anne Regine Ellingsaeter) family’s farm is situated – but what Anna learns from her job at the mayor’s office has unexpected consequences.
