-

SEPT 29 – OCT 5

Every year the National Trust celebrates the autumn harvest by decorating Felbrigg Hall near Norwich with flowers, fruits and vegetables from the garden. As well as enjoying the bumper crops and exotic plants of the famous walled garden, visitors can see produce on show in the old kitchen in the house, with fruittasting sessions on the last day from 2.30pm; gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions. Normal admission fees apply, free to National Trust members.

OCT 1

Barnsdale Gardens’ Introduction to Organic Vegetable Growing, a workshop led by Nick Hamilton, is a day-long course aimed at gardening novices and those who want to find out more about growing and “pest-proofing” vegetables the natural way. You’ll learn about organic principles, soil types, organic fertilisers, pest problems and how to deal with them, and the best ways to rotate crops. Tickets £76, tea, coffee and lunch included.

OCT 1

Come along and learn the art of willow weaving at Falkland Palace, Fife, with expert basket maker Lisa Bech (right). The workshop aims to develop skills through making a range of objects, functional and decorative. The willow has been grown in the gardens of Falkland Palace, which interested participants may wander around before the workshop begins at 1pm. Tickets £35 for individual sessions, or £95 for three sessions, on Oct 1, 22 and Nov 12.
