MOTHS

-

Moths appear to be most strongly driven by the chemistry of smell. Flowers have developed smells related to moths’ own pheromones, strong complex scents which moths pick up in infinite dilution, a single molecule at a time, by antennae on their heads and even legs.

From the dilution, moths can tell the distance to the desired object and follow scent volatiles as far as seven miles away. This codependence between flower and insect is one reason why summer nights smell so good.
